Children and teens may display dysregulated behaviors as a way of communicating and meeting a need. Often times, they require assistance identifying and processing deep emotions that are the underlying cause of the behavior. At Mindful Matters we offer a variety of treatment modalities including Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help shape behavior and instill positive coping strategies. Play and Art Therapy techniques assist children and teens with expressing and processing deep emotions that might not surface with traditional talk therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced based treatment modality that targets change through identifying maladaptive thoughts/behaviors and then working to sculpt these to become more adaptive. Research shows that parents/guardians play a pivotal role in shaping a child/teen's behavior. Therefore, we require parents/guardians and other members of the family living in the household to be included in some of the sessions with the child/teen client. This way, the therapist can provide the proper guidance and scaffolding to assist the family with building skills to support their child/teen toward the desired change.
